The current generation of gamers has no idea what they missed in the 1980s and 1990s. Some will disagree, but the video games of today are not as good as the ones of the past. If you haven't played these ten games yet, and I don't know why you haven't, then you need to do so now.

10. NBA JAM

Is there anything better than jumping off the 3-point line and dunking the ball? NBA Jam was a video game for the SNES that gave players an incredible experience playing basketball. No one will ever forget the famous quote "he's on fire!", because once you heard that, you were unstoppable.

9. DONKEY KONG

The original Donkey Kong kicked off Mario, but he was actually known as Jumpman during the game. Donkey Kong is a simple video game: all you have to do is avoid his barrels and reach the top of the platform. However, this does not take away from the charm of the game.

8. PAC-MAN

The original arcade game that started it all is Pac-Man. Even though the gameplay is very simple, it remains fun to this day. Be honest, how many quarters did you waste as a kid because you couldn't get past a certain level? Pac-Man is one of the most addictive games ever, and that's why it retains its charm.

7. MARIO KART 64

Mario Kart 64 is perhaps the best racing game of all time, and it's still a pleasure to play to this day. Super Mario Kart was a solid game, but this racing game should be considered the better of the two.

6. STREETS OF RAGE

The beat em' up genre has never been my favorite, but Streets of Rage reminds me that it can still be great. It's one of the hardest video games of all time, but that doesn't make it any less fun to go out and bash enemies' heads in.

5. CONTRA III

Alien warfare was upon us when we played Contra III, and you could feel every moment of it. This 2D shooter/platformer video game has some of the most intense levels you will ever play. I can also speak for all of us when I say: screw that vehicle level!

4. SUPER MARIO BROS

The most popular video game of all time is Super Mario Bros, and many say that this game saved the video game industry. Although this game has its flaws, the memories that Super Mario Bros left us with will never go away.

3. SONIC THE HEDGEHOG 3

Before he was a laughingstock, Sonic was a legend for Sega. Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is widely considered the best Sonic game, and I couldn't agree more. This game has the best levels, atmosphere and feel of any game in the Sonic franchise.

2. MEGA MAN

If I were to make a list of the ten most difficult video games of all time, Mega Man would be on it. Aside from its pathetic difficulty, Mega Man is one of the most entertaining platformers of all time. The entire series is fantastic, but this one holds a special place in the hearts of many gamers.

1. SUPER MARIO BROS 3

Although the first Super Mario Bros started it all, the third installment is widely considered the best. Super Mario Bros 3 took this franchise to another level and added several amazing power-ups. Whether you want to fly through a level with the P-Wing, jump through a level with the Lakitu Cloud, or swim like a pro with the Frog Suit, there is always a great power-up to be found. Super Mario Bros 3 was also the first Mario game to give us a complete world map, and it's still one of the best.
