Indie game developer Ninja Theory has released a video showcasing the production of its highly realistic Viking thriller Hellblade. Technology on new systems like the PS4 and Xbox One allows games to reach intense levels of realism. The people behind Ninja Theory are taking full advantage of this and more.
THE REALITY BEHIND THE PS4 AND XBOX ONE
With each new generation of gaming systems, everything goes up a notch. The latest in their respective series, the PS4 and Xbox One have the tools to make the gaming experience more real than ever. Ninja Theory is taking this concept to the next level. In its recent demo showing the making of Hellblade, Ninja Theory uses an actual actress for its protagonist to capture the full essence of the character. Her speech, facial movements and image are all captured in real time. As she moves in reality, every aspect of her is translated onto the big screen behind her. This brings a new reality behind the PS4 and Xbox One games that has never been seen. It's almost as if these devices will become platforms for interactive movies rather than games.
NINJA THEORY MAY HAVE JUST INVENTED THE METAVERSE
In science fiction, the metaverse is a set of shared spaces in the virtual world. It combines physical reality with virtual reality. With their ability to capture such precise images in real time and translate them into a virtual world, Ninja Theory may have just invented the metaverse. Watching the Hellblade demo is both fascinating and disturbing. When the actress speaks, the game character speaks. Every blink of the eye, every wrinkle of the face is immediately animated on the screen without any delay. It even goes so far as to translate the tear drops of both realities. There's good graphics for the PS4 and Xbox One and then there's this. Distinguishing reality from CGI is getting seriously harder.
HELLBLADE TO BE RELEASED THIS YEAR
For now, gamers can expect to see Hellblade on PS4 and PC later this year. No comment has been made regarding Xbox One support. However, this is just the first in a long line of exciting games breaking into the metaverse. Expect to be completely disoriented in the years to come between your games and your reality.
