Grand Theft Auto has been on the air in the United States for the past 16 years, moving from Liberty City to Vice City to Los Santos. With the recent success of GTA Online, Developer, Rockstar has turned its attention to multiplayer. Despite this, a recent rumor suggests that GTA 6 is in development. The same source also revealed that Rockstar once considered having a game set in Tokyo. No location has been confirmed for the next installment in the series, and it could be a while before anything is made official.

Tokyo: Find out tomorrow

The last time GTA left the U.S. was in 1999, on the streets of London. Rockstar followed up with GTA 3, set in Liberty City, in 2001. It was around this time that the developer began making plans for its next title to be set in Tokyo. The project was far enough along that the publisher filed a trademark for GTA: Tokyo. The Rockstar team eventually traveled to Tokyo to get a feel for the area. The project was eventually cancelled due to problems with the city's road system.

GTA 5: a busy time

GTA 5 was released in 2013 and has lost none of its vigor. The game has been ported to next-gen consoles, numerous updates to the multiplayer mode and VR innovations. With so much going on with their previous game, it's hard to see how Rockstar could find time for a sequel. There are also rumors that Rockstar is working on the next game in the Red Dead series.

Oh the places you will go

GTA 6 may not be released for several years, but that won't stop fans from speculating about the game's setting. Rockstar could have the game set in the United States, in one of the existing cities. The developer could also consider its past research and ultimately decide to take the game to Tokyo. Rockstar could also choose another route and make its next title in the series a global adventure, including many cities around the world.
