In preparation for the release of Final Fantasy 15 in September, developer Square Enix has re-released Final Fantasy 9 on PC. This move will give those who missed it 16 years ago another chance to play one of the series' fan favorites. It could also be a stepping stone to adapting future titles in the series to PC.
From PlayStation to PC
Final Fantasy 9 is the latest game in the series from the PlayStation era to make the jump to PC. The game follows Zidane and his team as they embark on an epic journey through Alexandria. The turn-based classic is now available on Steam for $16.79, and is only compatible with Windows systems.
Steam Achievements
While playing, players can earn Steam achievements by completing various challenges in the game. There are currently 85 achievements launched with the game. These achievements will probably take you a while to complete. One of them requires the player to kill 10,000 enemies.
Interesting new features
In addition to the Steam achievements, the game also includes game boosts. One of them is the no encounter mode, which answers players' prayers and ends all random encounters with enemies. The developers also added an autosave option, which any Final Fantasy fan will tell you was a must-have.
Hope for Final Fantasy 15?
With five months to go before Final Fantasy 15 is released, there is still no news of a PC version. Final Fantasy 15 director Hajime Tabata says that the developer has not worked on a PC version of the game, but says that if he did, it would be a far superior version.
Making Final Fantasy Great Again
No one knows if Final Fantasy 15 will be available on PC anytime soon. Square Enix's biggest concern should be restoring Final Fantasy to its former glory. Final Fantasy used to sell consoles, but now it's just a memory after two generations of mediocre titles. Square Enix needs to focus on making Final Fantasy 15. Once it has revived the series, we can then talk about a PC version.
