Peace is not forever. The war between the two popular shooter/MMO games The Division and Destiny is heating up again. Both will launch major updates on April 12. This will force players to make some sort of choice. In the past, it was easy for gamers to dip into each game's content, but now Ubisoft and Activision are battling it out.
LIVE STREAMING OF DESTINY IS GAINING GROUND
In terms of number of live streams, Destiny seems to be reigning supreme. The game has about 80-100,000 viewers, while The Division has a respectable, but lower, 60,000. The live stream doesn't make the biggest difference between the two, but given that The Division has revealed forays, you'd think it would be more popular with gamers. In the meantime, Destiny continues to generate interest and curiosity among players, which will most likely pay off.
THE DIVISION IS JUST LESS FUN
Gameplay is, of course, subjective, but many seem to think that Tom Clancy's latest game simply lacks an element that Destiny seems to have. Destiny offers better gameplay, more interesting enemies, a changing environment, and characters that you can really connect with. The progression in this game is addictive and rewarding. The Division, on the other hand, just seems like a nuisance at times. The enemies aren't interesting, but rather human bullet sponges that you have to run through. In the end, the experience just isn't as rewarding.
THE FINAL WORD
Both games certainly have their advantages. The Division has beautifully designed environments and a solid story to back it up. However, games are meant to be fun. Players will respond better to something fun than to a great look or a detailed storyline. On the other hand, Destiny is just plain fun. It has that rare quality that makes you wonder how much time you spent playing. Time ceases to exist and interest is never lost. Yes, both games have the ability to succeed, but the question of which one will come out on top doesn't arise. It is only a matter of time before the players decide on the inevitable.
